Memorial for Lacey

Dewitt’s Court American Retro Blue

October 30, 2006 - November 4th 2010

Our beloved girl lace passed away on November 4th. She had just turned 4. She was to be our foundation blue bitch and was working at finishing her AKC championship. Lacey was our second Dane. She is also the first Dane we have lost. So this memorial is very painful to write.

Lacey came to our home in Jan 2007 . She was a silly, goofy girl from the start. I remember when she was a puppy how she would sit in the “dog” chair in our family room and watch everyone around her. When it was time for me to leave for work I would say goodbye to the family. Then I would say good bye to all the dogs. She would watch this with interest till I approached her. Then she would roll over on her back and “hi five” my hand as a way of parting.

Lacey always had to have the last word. If you said “Lacey go settle” (go lay down) she would step back and give a little wuff. Then she’d approach and lick your face with enthusiasm. She was a very kissy and affectionate girl…

Lacey was a true show dog. She was always ‘on’ when she was in the ring.
Lacey patiently taught Tina to overcome her fear of being a handler in the ring. She was so easy to show that Tina felt relaxed and calm showing her. I remember when we were trying to finish Lilo, often Lacey would take Winners Bitch. Friends ring side would jokingly say “If you ever want to finish Lilo you better leave that Blue Bitch at home! Lilo happily got her championship. Sadly Lacey never got to realize that accomplishment. In our minds she was a champion. She was our champion!

In my opinion, everyone should be so lucky and blessed to have such a great dog as Lacey in their life. She will be sorely missed…

Sleep well sweet girl… I hope you have many green pastures to run and play in…(and we won’t show up in a car and trick you into taking a ride)!!
